The buttons within the Formatting section of the Main window each open a new window to allow more specialised formatting to be performed.
A Background or Overlay image for the map can be specified using the Background / Overlay Image button (which opens the Background/Overlay window). This image could be a base map, but could be a logo, copyright message, or simply a colour field. If not defined, the map is drawn on the plain background of the page.
Mapping of the selected data is based on Data Bands and Symbols that can be defined via the Data Bands / Symbols button (which opens the Data Bands / Symbols window). By default, all of the selected data will be mapped using a single symbol which can be changed in this window. Alternatively, more complex banding can be defined, together with a variety of symbols.
Before creating a map it is also possible to amend a number of formating parameters using the Map Formatting button (which opens the Map Formatting window). This window also allows the user to define the size and resolution of the map image.
